Consulted with the Belconnen community to better understand their views on possible expansion of the local Westfield.
As part of planning to refresh the Westfield retail centre in Belconnen, the Scentre Group wanted to understand the local community's views and aspirations.
In considering whether to seek a variation to the Territory Variation Plan to extend the allowed building height of the current centre, the Scentre Group prepared artist impressions for the site featuring revitalised retail, dining, residential and outdoor precincts.
Communication Link partnered with the Scentre Group to undertake a community consultation program to understand community views on plans to improve and develop the site.
This program included an online survey, pop-up conversations in the Centre and a presentation to the local Community Council meeting.
Almost 600 local residents contributed, generating more than 1600 data points. Survey data was categorised based on key emerging themes and questions to highlight community views on the future of the site. Feedback included centre enhancements, challenges in developing the site, improving connections, what is missing from the centre, community facilities, and general feedback.
The overall sentiment from the community regarding the vision for a revitalised Westfield Belconnen was positive, with 63% of participants indicating their support.
