The North Curtin Residential Area project exemplifies collaborative urban planning, with Communication Link leading community engagement to gather input that will shape a sustainable, liveable, and connected neighbourhood, incorporating key feedback from residents, local Ngunnawal representatives, and stakeholders.

The North Curtin Residential Area project highlights a collaborative approach to urban planning, with community engagement at its core.

We partnered with the ACT Government’s Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate (EPSDD) and urban designers to deliver the engagement program. This involved gathering community input to inform a set of planning conditions which will guide future development of the neighbourhood. Through a range of engagement activities, including surveys, pop-up events, and workshops, more than 2900 pieces of feedback were collected from residents, stakeholder groups, the broader community and local Ngunnawal representatives.

The feedback highlighted the importance of a sustainable development, green spaces, transport, and amenities. The participants considered the trade-offs between providing important residential housing while maintaining areas of open green space., Targeted outreach ensured a broad cross-section of voices were heard, including First Nations perspectives, which will be incorporated into future planning.

Communication Link’s leadership in stakeholder engagement has provided the ACT Government with a clear understanding of local concerns and desires, helping to inform the future detailed planning and design. With sustainability at its core, this project will help create a new North Curtin Residential Area that will be a liveable, connected, and environmentally conscious neighbourhood, shaped by the voices of the community.
