Communication Link led a process to develop the University of Canberra’s Connect Up pilot through a community engagement and co-design process, gathering insights to improve social connection for young people living in Belconnen and Bruce.

Communication Link led a co-design process for a community pilot run by the University of Canberra, in which non-clinical ‘Connect Workers’ help increase social connection for young people living in Belconnen and Bruce.

Planning the pilot involved a comprehensive community engagement process to gather insights and feedback from young people in Belconnen and Bruce. Through workshops, focus groups, and surveys, we facilitated meaningful consultations with diverse community members.

A working group of representatives from the local community helped co-design the consultation program, and following the consultation the working group co-designed the pilot model. This ensured the pilot model reflected the priorities and needs of the target population.

Key engagement tools included technical agendas, innovative workshop activities, and interview guides for focus groups and deep-dive interviews.

This approach has been instrumental in developing a pilot model that reflects the priorities of young people in Belconnen and Bruce and addresses the root causes of social isolation. This has ensured the program will be relevant, effective, and responsive to the specific community needs.

The co-design approach also built a sense of ownership and connection among community members, increasing the likelihood of the program's long-term success.
