Communication Link is proud to have delivered change, engagement, and strategy services for the Digital Literacy Program. This has contributed to the design of a framework to deliver tailored and place-based support for First Nations communities supporting relevant and safe approaches to technology uptake.
Communication Link was engaged by the Department of Social Service to provide transformation, engagement, and strategic services to the Digital Literacy Program. This has resulted in a tailored framework that provides essential, culturally relevant, support to First Nations communities with respect to technology uptake.
In many remote locations, mobile and internet services are either non-existent or subpar, particularly in remote Northern Territory areas. Digital connectivity is the key to providing these communities with greater access to healthcare, education, employment, government services, entertainment, and social connection.
Our initial goal was to help communities transition to new technology by providing tools for connecting to mobile and Wi-Fi platforms for the first time. We conducted over 40 consultation research activities in remote and regional locations, revealing the need for a more thoughtful approach to this transition.
In response, we developed a tailored Digital Literacy Framework for First Nations communities, setting foundational competencies to support all communities. This approach ensures that solutions, training, and engagement are community-specific and empowering.
Our partnership with Aurec in delivering this project aligns with digital inclusion reforms, including the Closing the Gap initiative and the Indigenous Digital Inclusion Plan, promoting meaningful change in First Nations communities.
