We are proud to have worked with the ACT Government to develop beautiful in-person and virtual exhibition displays on the impact of Mr Fluffy loose fill asbestos on Canberrans.
In 2022, Communication Link was engaged to review community feedback and design exhibition information and displays for a Place of Refection located within the National Arboretum Canberra.
Through our review of community feedback, we developed a deep understanding of the feelings and ideas of those impacted. The Place of Reflection acknowledges the legacy of loose fill asbestos insulation, which was installed in buildings, mostly residential homes, between 1968 and 1979 in the ACT.
Since 2014, over 1000 affected houses in the ACT have been demolished as they contained this potentially hazardous material. This impacted homeowners and residents, those who worked in affected properties, and those whose streets and neighbourhoods were substantially changed.
The legacy of My Fluffy will continue to ripple through the lives of those people who have lost loved ones to, or who are suffering from, asbestos related diseases. It is a constant reminder in the lives of those who were regularly exposed to loose fill asbestos insulation and carry the risk of disease with them.
The Place of Reflection aims to educate about the history, the health and safety impacts, and how the Canberra community lives with this legacy.
Feedback from the community informed our development of interpretive signage as well as digital content linked via a QR code displayed at the Place of Reflection. The information is educative, engaging, timeless and supportive of community recovery from the legacy of loose fill asbestos insulation.
