Delivering genuine stakeholder-led design to plan for a new community hub
A new Kippax Community Hub is part of the ACT Government’s plan to meet the future needs of the West Belconnen community. Communication Link was engaged by AMC Architects to deliver an engagement program to inform a genuinely consultation-led concept design and explore potential operational models.
We engaged with the general community, ACT Government users and stakeholders, the Dhawura Ngunnawal Caring for Country Committee secretariat, peak organisations, community groups, local businesses, residents and property owners.
We asked stakeholders what could make the new Kippax Community Hub a great space for everyone. We listened to their ideas on how they would like to use the new building with a focus on adding amenity to the area rather than duplicating what is already there.
Engagement included online consultation, pop ups, three facilitated workshops as well as stakeholder conversations. We promoted involvement using information sheets, talking points, radio and print media, social posts, letterbox drops, newsletter articles, visits to businesses and organisations and emails to stakeholders.
Stakeholder discussions also identified community organisations that may be interested in delivering services as tenants onsite or even managing the Community Hub including bookings for community facilities. This provided an important basis for on-going discussions about future management and operation of the facility.
