Delivering a broad reaching training and change management program to support the successful implementation of the ACT’s new planning system.
The new planning system in the ACT was designed to deliver better outcomes for communities, the environment, and people across Canberra. The ACT Government was committed to ensuring that the transition to the new system was smooth for government, industry and community stakeholders.
To support the transition, Communication Link delivered a change management strategy as well as a comprehensive training implementation program to ensure stakeholders were supported to navigate the new planning system.
In 2023, we delivered over 80 training sessions to over 2600 participants. We also curated and facilitated a range of bespoke training sessions on different elements of the planning system. Training was delivered in both online and in-person formats.
We designed the training in partnership with the ACT Government using best-practice training principles. We developed clear, high-quality presentation and workbook materials including a range of interactive elements, curated videos and in-person technical experts to answer participant questions.
We evaluated impact and continually improved the training program by implementing a feedback survey at each training session, providing avenues for in-session feedback, and conducting interviews with stakeholders.
Complementing the training were Train the Trainer and Change Champion programs. These programs supported interested stakeholders to develop the knowledge and tools necessary to extend the reach of the training into their own professional and community networks.
This comprehensive training and change management program supported the implementation of the new planning system and will guide future iterations and processes relating to the planning system in the ACT.
